Question Misfiring engine when starting up

My Brother has a 06 Golf and when its turned on and is warming up, it sounds like its misfiring, this last a few mins, then its all good, is it just something that all FSI engines Golfs do

The FSI (Fuel Stratified Injection?) cars do run extremely lean in the idle cycle & can sound like a miss fire - the A/f ration can be as high as 17:1 (that I have seen on a dyno), but quickly richens when under load - best for economy & longevity - It is possible that is what you are hearing.

    Performance and fuel efficiency combined

First developed for the racetrack, FSI technology from Volkswagen AG, enables better performance and a higher torque whilst simultaneously keeping fuel consumption low and reducing emissions.
    How does it work?

Fuel Stratified Injection describes the stratified petrol direct injection attained by this engine. Supplied by a common-rail system, the fuel is injected into the combustion chamber at a pressure of 100 bar. The reduced consumption of the FSI engine is achieved by stratification in the low and medium speed ranges. One major achievement of this engine technology is the efficient exhaust treatment with a NOx catalytic converter for reducing the nitrogen oxides found in the exhaust gases.

you say it sounds like misfiring, but is it actually misfiring?

when you first start up, many things happen. You have a secondary air pump pumping air straight into the exhaust, your car idles high, but is it actually misfiring?

Yes thanks for the replies, I agree with both of them, never actually thought there was anything wrong with it, just something it does, drove it down to Kyogle today and my Brother (the owner) drove it back in one day, great car.

Is it an '06 as in year or a Mk6 as in model. If it is a Mk6 petrol they all run slightly rough for the first minute. It is to do with the emissions. The ECU is programmed to heat the catalytic converter to operating temperature as quickly as possible so that it is working ASAP after start up.
