Default T4 2.5 Petrol - Needs More Go?

    Attention VW Guru's

My T4 is 2.5 petrol. It struggles at the sight of any hill even when it's empty, let alone with a camper trailer tagging behind. Any way I turn to travel out of Adelaide there are hills.
Has this engine been used in any other models?
Does anybody know of any mods available for this engine to increase torque and power?

    Any info would be appreciated.

    Regards, SloT4.

    Hi Slo,

Not many economical ways of getting power out of this motor - what year is the car?

The post 98' ones had a better engine.

Oettinger used to have some software that worked with cylinder head porting & a new camshaft, but that was ~ 6k about 10 years ago.

Always check your service components, plugs, temp sensor, air mass meter etc - I have owned 4 or 5 of these & they always pulled OK up hills (Mind you, they were damn thirsty )

    It's a 99.

It's done less than 100 000 k's and has a good service history so all service components should be fine but I'll check anyway.

6k seems fairly pricey unless it makes a large difference. I thought about starting with exhaust. Are extractors available? And would that help much with this engine?

    Cheers, SloT4

I don't think they will make a notable difference - it was head work / camshaft that unlocked the flow

I have a 2.5 petrol with 350,000kms on it and it still pulls like a beauty!
It flies up hills.......like most VW's.....lots of torque.
I'd be checking the plugs and timing to start with.

One thing that caught me a plenty of mechanics out, is the hose that runs from the PCV valve, across the iop of the head and into the air intake.

I had a lot of annoying little problems creeping in and no-one could figure out why. Like a slight miss and a lack of power at times.

After months of this, I was cleaning the engine down and happened to grab that hose and felt a hole underneath, so I pulled it off and half the hose was gone!

From the top it looked perfectly OK.
Anyway, a new one ($80) and all those little annoyances have gone.
