Default Golf Mk6 118TSI - Crashed, transmission not shifting question

    Hi!

I have a Golf 118TSI. It has been crashed, just hard enough to set off the airbags and seatbelt tensioners but not hard enough to do any serious mechanical damage (I think!). Nothing has been fixed at this stage. Anyways, I can start the engine (with jump-starting, as it seems like the battery is flat and won't charge), but the transmission (DSG) won't engage drive or reverse. The selector will shift to D and R, but it acts like it is still in N.

Would this be because of the ECU / airbag modules??? Or would there be other reasons why the transmission would do this? I noticed that the gear selector wouldn't move at all when the battery was flat, could this be a system voltage issue? Or... does the seatbelt have to be on to shift the transmission?

    Any help much appreciated!

Not 100% sure but when the "crash" is detected it disables certain things. Never had experience on a Golf 6, but generally the airbag system is separate to the rest.

Checking it with a fault code reader will tell you.

There is an electromagnetic lock on the shifter & if you dont have voltage it will hold it in Park or Neutral - so Voltage can cause that!

    Thanks Aussie Volks Guy!

I think I should start by sorting out the battery charge / voltage issues (I have to jump start it even to unlock the doors, this thing has no key-holes!)... then I'll see where I can find a fault-code reader thingy, while buying an airbag kit with all the modules.
