Default 1999 Passat 1.8T - Water Pump Leak or Water Pump Failure?

I have a 99 1.8lt passat. damn these things have few issues here and there.
Anyway, the car decided to start losing coolant externally which can be seen coming from the water pump. I cant tell exactly where its coming from but it seems to be seeping from around the bottom area. (refer to pic). But cant tell 100%. http://img28.imageshack.us/img28/6583/waterpump.jpg

Do you guys think its failure or a leak in gasket somewhere? Cars still running fine no overheating issues. Just loss of coolant.

If possible you could apply a sealant such as Fortron Stop Leak.

Won't comment as to whether you need a new pump or not thats for your mechanic to decide

I don't know my Melbourne Geography well though, but I know the boy's from Volkspower in Burwood pretty well - they will look after it.

Just watch it as sometimes the impellers come loose, and some are made of metal, if left go, they can chew a hole in the block.

Most replacement pumps have plastic impellers.

Yeh cars not getting driven at all atm. My mechanics going to come have a look at it today. If it is a gasket or seal. Does the water pump still need to be taken off ?

Also VW isnt the water pump meant to be part of the major service? Looks at thought vw did not chuck in a new WP even when the timing belt was done
