Default Golf Mk6 - Does Premium Petrol Really Matter?

    Hi all,

Ive just ordered a Golf and am wondering about the petrol.

Dealership has said to use premium but a friend has said there's no difference, and I can just use regular unleaded.

    What do you think?

    Sammi,

What engine in your Golf? - Depending on engines, it matters more (in the turbo cars & high compression normally aspirated ones).

Inside the fuel flap of the car is the recommended octanes

I have an email from VWA wherein they state very clearly that they consider premium (PULP) to be 98RON (the 95 in the cap is likely an overseas rating) and that if you use anything less than PULP and you have any problems your warranty will be void.

I'd be very carefull and not use anything less than PULP at all ......

I find I get much better fuel economy on 98 PULP at least 50km more per fill than standard, which I have had to use when nothing else was available. I've done 65ooo Km now and all is running sweet.
I don't see that you will have any trouble with warranty if you stick to the recommended fuel types.

If it was a GTI I would say 98 no doubt, however u could prob get away with 95 in the comfortline. Your engine would run cleaner and happier though with the 98.
Every time u fill up in the GTI's, the FSI engine takes 5 mins. to evaluate the new tank of fuels octane properties etc. It is recommended not to floor the throttle in the first 5 mins. of each new tank also

    Hmmm... that' interesting! It says:

"The change to Volkswagen’s recommendation for the use of 95RON fuel is for all model year 2010 vehicles."

However, other parts of the article suggest this 'downgrade' applies to current models. Does anyone know of more info on this?
