Default Caddy - Is it normal to smell exhaust fumes through vents at rest?

I am the proud owner of a new Caddy Maxi Life and I love it!

Can anyone tell me if it's normal to get a whiff of the TDI's exhaust when stopped with all windows closed, venting fresh air with the fan on low? It's a bit annoying...

Come to think of it, it's probably just a function of the Caddy's design - the tailpipe terminates under the car and is not visible from behind.

At rest, exhaust probably fills the voids under the car and eventually makes its way into the engine bay, where some it exits along the top edge of the bonnet. This would explain how some it makes it into the cabin. A shame the pollen/charcoal filter can't stop it.

A small annoyance because I keep forgetting to stop recirculating when moving again.

It's still a fantastic little big van though!

Glad you enjoy the Caddy, they are an awesome van, its good to see more & more of them appearing.

I think you found the issue yourself - the downturned tailpipes (keeps most of the soot off the back of the car I believe), but yes, more fumes in the ones I have driven!

Yeah, it drives so well. A good compromise between space and efficiency too.

I can't wait to do some trips away in it!

Well there ya go....I wondered why our Eos has the talipipes terminating under the car.....to stop soot on the back!.....we havent had any problems with exhaust fumes yet,but of course, usually the roof is down!

Yeah, good point Aussie Volks Guy.

I wonder how good the particulate filter is? Maybe VW could use a different system for DPF-fitted VWs...

I have a customer with an X5 3.0 diesel, it had the downturned pipes under the car.

he thought it would be a great idea to fit the V8 muffler (exposed tailpipes that run through the rear bar).

    his car is white.

It was a really bad idea.......

& it had particle filters - so a lot still gets through them!

Had our Caddy for a while now and it is faultless. No fumes or problems of any kind, in fact it has exceeded our expectations despite having owned a series of cars from new including Mazda's, Subarus and Alfa.

    Default Solved!

After a replacement turbo under warranty due to a squeally bearing, no more fumes.
