    Question 5th Gear Replacement

    Hi Guys,

Well something weird happened to my Golf last month, the 5th gear just stop working from one day to another, I used to drive everyday to work and for work, not really hard drive but when I have a chance to push it a little I let the gas go,

So, one day returning from Epping to my home in Ashfield on the M4 when I was speeding up to enter to the fast lane the change from 4th gear to the 5th did a crank noise and then the gear pop out, weird!, I tried again and the same, and same, until I notice that I have to really push in the gear to get it in place, so, I went to my service of the 15K's and the dealer told me that they need replace some parts of my gear box,

Now I’m jumping from 4th to the 6th gear, really boring, but I have to wait until the part arrives to the dealer,

What you think?, anyone with the same problem, why this could happen?, my car it’s only 8 months old,

    MAC.

    First I've heard of it.

The age of the vehicle is irrelevent, if you know for certain that it's not due to wear and tear.

It's probably only a $5 thrust washer or something silly like that, that has failed. Once replaced, you'll probably never have a problem with the transmission again.

The diagnosis was Strip and Insoect the gearbox,

    Parts replaced:

    1 Outer ring
    1 Syncro ring inner

Glad to hear your car is all better. If only more dealers would have the same standard of customer service.. stick with them.
