Tiguan towing capacity

Been interested in these for about 12 months , i was told these had class leading tow ratings , 2500kg. so paid my $2000 deposit and ordered one. Now i here there only rated to tow 2000kg. Has anyone here heard different stories on the towing rate in the lead up to release.

I was stating to think where did i get this 2500kg. figure from, then i remembered, 4x4 australia did a feature on the Tiguan in there Dec. 07. issue, they stated a towing capacity of 2500kg. Even in the current issue in the buyers guide they list 2200kg. as the towing capacity.

Fast forward to the Melb. motor show 2008, i spoke to at least 3 Volkwagen poeple at their stand stating that the 2500kg. towing capacity has won me over and i would order one the following week.

The next closest was the Sante-fe with 2000kg. towing cap.

I will still buy it but not happy being missguided by volkswagen and missinformed by 4x4 australia, i think i have ranted on long enough.

Interestingly enough .... I saw the Fifth Gear comparo against the KIA Sportage, and I am sure I heard him say 2500 towing also.

I heard it was 2200 when I first heard about it, but that was January when I bought my Polo. The salesman did say "don't quote me"

The next closest was the Sante-fe with 2000kg. towing cap.

I have been told the diesel Sante Fe can tow 2500kg (the reason my mum went with it over waiting for the Tiguan).
