    Default R32 - Audi A4

    G'Day,
I'm new here, but are keen to buy a series IV R32.
My problem is that I'm waiting on the sale of an Audi A4. While looking at R32's for sale on line I got to thinking, surely there's someone out there with a great R32 that is selling it due to wanting to down grade to another brilliant car and pocket 20odd grand. A trade may just save myself and some lucky R32 owner some time and effort.
My A4 is a 98 model and other than being a sedan, is extremely similar to an R32. Similar power at 160ish KW (chipped 1.8t). Similar Quattro system. Similar options with full leather and electrics, and finally mine's got some nice upgrades such as Koni adjustable suspension, 15k super clear stereo and 18inch Dronnell wheels.

Please accept my apologies if I've posted this in the wrong section.

    Cheers,
    Shaun

Hi Shaun, welcome to the forum. The A4 and R32 are not all that similar - they are completely different cars. If you are somebody who likes modifying their cars, then I'd suggest a 8L S3 over the R32. An S3 gains 30kw with a software upgrade, and has a lot more midrange torque. They also feel a bit lighter in the front.

Anyway, welcome and good luck with the sale!

    Thanks Lams,
I know the A4 and R32 aren't the same mechanically, but they do have similar features and DNA so I'd suggest they'd appeal to similar people. Quality German car with reasonable power, 4 wheel grip and well appointed interiors.
Basically, I love my A4 as I can't think of a better all round car for the money, but I need to carry samples around for work, not too mention my golf clubs and other bits and pieces on the weekends. I don't really like the look of the A4 wagon (RS4 excluded of course) which leaves me wanting a similar car in a hatch. Therefore the R32 is perfect, and as you point out, so too is the S3. I would certainly consider an S3 and in fact a series V golf GTi. Just putting it out there to see if there's any interest.
In saying that, I just found out my car allowance has gone up so I may even look at trading it for a new R32, BM 135i Sport / BM 135i (I know it's a stupid choice considering the room, but they look awesome), or perhaps the new STi Sooby.

    Cheers.

The A4 1.8tq i had felt a lot more like a front wheel drive car including torque steer than what the new R32 does. Shorter wheel base and seems better balanced, as well as better traction. Perhaps those B5's just get loose over time.. but i see what you're saying, similar features/build/quality .

Lams - you should have lent or given me the 8-10k extra for an S3 and i may have got one . However Resale is shocking on Audi's especially A4's!

    Hi Shaun,
I suggest you have a look on vwwatercooled - there are several people selling R32s around the place, so depending on your location you might get a bit of luck from there.
