AAMI can be weird....They wanted about $1600 for the A3- rating 1 no claims etc. Ironically, the last quote on the S3 was $1400 from them which was still almost double what I paid....
I ended up with RACV and am paying just over $700 agreed value, glass claims, hire car and rating 1 protection...

I've been happy with Suncorp....
I went for NRMA over Suncorp this time, as they are about $400 cheaper (typically).

I went with CGU, 3 year new car for old if written off or stolen was the main selling point plus you get to choose the repairer which most don't offer anymore.
AAMI I won't deal with again, their repair process just sucks and I've had many many many problems with repairers (last one had the car back over 6 times).
Paid around $650 for nominated driver insurance with no insurance for under 25 drivers in Brisbane. Both nominated drivers are over 30 and rating 1 with no claims (at fault). This was for a GTI with Leather, SatNav, accessories.
QBE are 4 year new car for old but you have to use their repairer. Allianz (VW use them for their branded insurance) are only 2 years new for old.
I'm 23 so automatically I have fewer options than you guys
I was with RACQ until I told them I got the car chipped, they verbally said I had 30 days to remove it. 30 days later I was driving up the snowy mountains without any insurance from Brisbane, they mailed me a letter to notify me it's been cancelled.
I then went with Just Car for a year, before AAMI started insuring under-25s with turbo cars. My bus is with AAMI as is my old Golf GTI (that reminds me, I'm still paying for my brother's insurance $&*&!!!) and the beetle's with Shannons
I'm paying about 900 a year with each AAMI car, which allows all drivers (plus age excess of course). The beetle's on limited use so that one doesn't really compare
I think all insurers are weird. I think most wanted more to insure a stock standard MkIV GTI Golf with it's big 1.8T with 110kW than what they wanted for the R. Go figure.![]()
