Thread: MkIV GTi ECU flash options

  1. #1

Default MkIV GTi ECU + performance discussion

Just after a list of the available ECU re-flashes for the MkIV GTi with what power increases and at what co$t.
I know of the APR stuff as my mates have had them in their VW's & Audis but the other types i dont know who does them or how much they charge.
Any info or links to threads on other forums etc would be great.
I also heard about a 6 hour flash that allows you to get a road test before purchase?
    Cheers

    Hi Nafen,

    Welcome to the forum!

Obviously you know about the APR - there is also Oettinger out of Germany (who are APR's partners) - then there is Revo (who like the first two, have a 6 hour trial), then MTM, Giac, and a local option of powerchip.

The free trial generally only works on the Drive by wire cars, so most of our MKIV's are out of luck for that. Certainly with APR / Oettinger, we can give you a money back guarantee.

There is an Australian forum on VWVortex, and a good forum on

    http://www.vwwatercooled.org.au

    Worth a look as well.

Thanks mate, i have had a browse around but it seems people would rather bitch about it all than put the facts on the table.

A few of the dyno sheets i saw seem to have boost spiking to 14-15psi then bleeding off to almost nothing as the rpms increase, is this a common thing?

Yeah, boost tapering is common (mandatory) - you have to remember the size of these turbo's is tiny. Theres plenty of dyno plots out there now to show it. If you go up a couple of sizes in Turbo, then you can hold STI type boost!

I think Bill Gates does the best out of software around the place

Can someone explain to me why the APR stage 1 costs $1650 here but is only $499 in the US ?

Nafen, quite simply because its not US software. It was developed for us and the price is proportional to the number sold vs development / support etc. The AGU engine was never delivered in the US either.

You would be better off comparing to the other export countries & comparing the prices. Look at APR in Germany, South Africa, Japan, UK etc - you will find the Aus price is equal or lower than these companies. You will find it the same with the other software companies as well - US pricing has little to do with export market pricing.
