Thread: engine number location

    Unhappy engine number location

I recently purchased interstate a nice low km 2009 Polo for the wife. This is a 1600 petrol with 6 speed DSG. We now need to transfer the rego here in SA and need to have an ID inspection. This entails sighting the engine number.Every engine number I have ever sighted is located on a ground pad somewhere on the block. The block appears to be largely covered with other bits and pieces. Very hard to see it at all.

There is a sticker on the timing cover that displays this number but where is it on the engine block?
I believe SAPOL wont accept the sticker.

Anyone with any experience with this?

    Default

After some sniffing around the net and a look on Elsawin I was pointed in the right direction. It is stamped on a ground pad on the engine block just above where the gearbox mates to it . To see it you need to remove the piece of plastic ducting that runs from the grille to the air-cleaner box . Once that is out of the way a torch and one of those little round mirrors on telescopic handle will let you see it. Next step off to the local cop shop for the inspection.
