Apparently the GTI 30 Edition based Pirelli GTI is on its way Down Under if the order books can be filled.

Ahhhh now it starts to make sense, to close to GTI

Will it come with traditional Conti SC2s or the Dunlops that we've seen recently?

I saw this on the net and a someone on another forum said i should wait for it, but i doubt Australia will even see it. Don't mind the stitching on the leather and side skirts and 18's as stock, plus the extra kw..

It's a bit hard to order it if nobody at Highway VW knew anything about it. Personally i think it's a bit too close to the GTI, and i reckon dealers would want a lot more for it (like the STI's etc). It's not the true 30th anniversary edition either, so bit of a weak theme in my opinion.

Can't say that yellow really suits a Golf.. unlike type R 'Teg's... but would certainly stand out from the crowd.

I'm told from a good source that 500 of these units will make there way to Aus. Austral have put there hand up for 50 of them. They have also taken pre orders on them, so go there since Highway doesn't know anything

Nice if they come our way, could have just been that particular salesman, unless VW Australia isn't passing on info.. eitherway they're pretty new and those guys probably aren't on the internet all day like us (j/k).

Still unsure of that shade of yellow - bit weak like those WRX that came out in them.. but another colour would be ok.

I wonder how much extra they will sell them for????? I'm guessing it will be a few grand more - can imagine they'd give them away for the same price? I should have ordered one of those if they take 3 months anyway.

    cheers,

    cheers,
You can probably expect another 5K so it is still cheaper than the R32.
I am told that these cars will be sold at retail and considering the estimated 160kw they are supposed to be coming with you would be better getting a normal GTI, getting a discount and throwing a chip at it and some aftermarket 18's.
It might even work out cheaper

I agree with you, but if GTI cost any more i'd get the R32 instead of it for sure. Another 5k isn't worth it IMO, and money spent on a Chip and nice 18's would be money better spent. I doubt they would discount them too much, passing it off as limited edition etc. I may have ordered one if they were available but they're probably 6 months away at least and there could be new models out within too long (2009?).

Besides, if you then chip the Pirelli edition, wouldn't it be the same output as a chipped normal GTI (ie 188kw APR) meaning the % increase is less, and worse value? I suppose if you had a bit more power initially people may not chip it (but where's the fun in that ).

I asked one of my local dealers to see if we could get an update - nothing positive from VGA yet

Just my guess that my might bring them out before the MK6 arrives to keep the GTI sales ripping along

I have to admit, I did frown a little when I first saw pics of the Pirelli seats with the design resembling tread pattern.

    hmmmmmm ....any thoughts anyone?
