Thread: Hi from new guy. R32T MKV

  1. #21

    Default Update

    Update on the car:

It's back together and is on the road. We got now:
    C2 Stage III
    UM CODE
    268/272 CAMs
    SRI by UM
    10PSI waste-gate spring

    Result:
Linear power delivery, no noticeable loss of mid range torque. More torque up in RPM
CAM's make it sound more aggressive under the load. Spool is improved and top end RPM pull harder now. Idle and normal driving still fells 100% OEM.

    Problems to resolve:
Exhaust touching the frame, somewhere once again. This 3.5in system is tricky.

RPM pick up for the boost controller!!! Anyone know where I can tap in???
Injector wiring will be trialed next week. But I was told there is actually a proper RPM signal elsewhere in the system.

Some images of the install. New air filter fitted.
SRI to intercooler is a custom pipe, my SRI was ordered without one.

Now this little bustard is a pain. It is a adapter that comes with STAGE III kit, goes between WG and exhaust. We had exhaust leak and, found this leaking. Face it, replaced gasket and no fix!!! The bloody flange actually flex when you do up two bolts, there is no way to crash seal the gasket as flange bends. The face of the flanges was not done properly to, so crash lip of the gasket was ending up in the 'hole'. We had new part made up by the local shop - problem solved.
Check yours BEFORE assembly. It's is a bastard to get to.

You can actually see where it flexed, thermal coating have came off (flaked off) :banghead:

    Re Exhaust:
My issue is that 3.5 inch with straight thru mufflers for the flow is too loud and there is a major drone at 2300RPM.

    So, experiment 1:
I had two straight thru mufflers + 20 inches of spiral (think moroso).

Now added third straight thru muffler after the CAT's and reduced spiral length to 12 inch:

Result is slight reduction in drone and it's shift to lower RPM, now sit at 2100RPM (left overs). So, as theory tells us, absorption mufflers (high flow type commonly used) do not do much at low frequencies. They suppress 300/600 Hz upwards. Nothing down low where we need it most, about 100Hz. So use of those to help the drone is noneffective. One needs baffled type muffler of CORSA type with branch resonator technology. Those will work much better below 300Hz.

So, we still have some minor drone that needs to be addressed and a very high flow system that sounds really nice and deep 4000RPM upwards.

    Looks good!

On 4 wire coilpacks, the smallest wire is the RPM signal (tach) - give that a try!

Hi Guy, I had it connected there, as per your suggestion to the guys who done install! No luck, eBOOST reads zerro. I was hopping there is a pin on ECU like on MKIV R32...
I am thinking about that Autometer Tach adapter: http://forum.traqmate.com/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=1074

    Interesting
    Go APR!!

hmmm - not sure in that case, thats what we use for the dyno RPM pickup, you would hope it was the same!

Finally got some hard data, on OEM exhaust, boosted R32 @ aprox 420hp generates 0.8bar backpresure at redline.

BTW, Guy I overheard that you guys done couple of custom turboed R32's including APR tuning

    Hey Val,

None in Australia, but I believe they have helped out "special" customers in the US!
