OK - Instructions too big. Basically you need to remove the outer door handle - then remove the outer door skin to gain access. 19 bolts holt the inner skin to it....

There are a few foam seals that seal all the hot / cold air pipes behind the dash. It's not uncommon for this to happen with age. You can pull your vents pretty easily to check, deeper under the dash...
