I've got a 2004 golf 2.0L sport... i feel like im getting pretty shitty fuel consumption from it only about 12.5L per 100km but this is considering i do mostly city driving... is this normal for my car? and would modifications like an ecu remap or airfilter help consumption?
i dont know alot about all this stuff so some help would be good thanks

SOunds like a lot. I got 12.5L/100km from my R32 (MKV) in the first week of ownership and that was with a lot of "spirited" driving.

Sounds way out:

www.redbook.com.au (http://www.redbook.com.au) defines the manual at 8.4 l / 100km (about right from my memory back then!)

I would suggest a good service, new Mass Air meter & temp sensor as the first step. Airfilter & ECU upgrade will not help anything if these two are reading incorrectly!

The mass air flow sensor and temperature sensor go bung all the time on these things. I've lost count of how many I've replaced now. But yeah, quite often the diagnostic computer wont show any fault codes. I usually unplug the MAF sensor, and go for a quick drive, to see if there's any improvement in throttle response, and acceleration in general.

Yeah a service may fix this.
