I'm getting close to needing some new shoes for my MkV Gti and I've been very happy with the original Continental's until "Harding Performance" plugged the laptop in and increased the wear :nodder: hehe. No jokes, new ContiSportContact2 225/45 R17 are $465 each, has anyone else seen a better price or can suggest a quality replacement... I know you get what you pay for but they're only 17's.

I had Hankook S1 Evos on my S3 and loved them...Quiet, they hang on and are good in the wet as well...

Can't coment on longevity though as I sold it for the GT....which will hopefully turn up one day :icon_sad:

I got the Pirelli P-Zero Neros on the R.
As I upgraded from Nankangs the difference between the two is huge. However, I've seen very little complaints about them when I was looking at tyre choices.

The current recommendations seem to be Yokohama Advan v103's, or Bridestone Adrenaline RE001's, or stick with the Conti's.

Me been looking at these two just to be different of course.
P.S. I would love for someone to shoot me down on these, so as to get them out of me head.

Eddy, dont do it - take it from me- stick with the better known brands.

Theres only four little bits of rubber that ultimately hold you to the ground.

Hey Treza360 what did the P-Zero Nero's sting per corner??
I got them down from an initial quote of around $350 a tyre to $299 for 225/40 R18s. I know of someone who picked that size up for less than $250 but apparently they were grey import tyres (as opposed to being officially imported by Pirelli). Apparently the RRP is over $500 a tyre. :icon_eek:

what's wrong with Pracedas? Still cheaper than P-Zeros..
Had them on the 1.8T and pretty good.

Personally, I wouldn't say that there's anything wrong with them. It all depends on what your budget allows for.
The Precedas are a different spec tyre to the P-Zeros or say the Pilot Sports. As we're talking V/W rated versus Y rated rubber, there is going to be a performance difference between the tyres.
However we are talking high performance versus ultra high performance rubber and unless you're really pushing it you're not going to notice too much of a difference.
You should always go with the best in what your budget allows for because as Guy said at the end of the day your tyres are the only point of contact on the road.

I'll definitely shop around for prices and I'm ready to pay $400 / corner for quality product but we all want value for our hard earned $$. Sounds like you got a pretty good deal....

I have 225/45/17 P-Zero Nero's they are a pretty good all round tyre.

Blairs tyres in NSW have them for $220ea which is a pretty good deal. If there isnt a Blairs near you go to your local Bob Jane and ask them to do a price match or beat it and they usually will as the Pirellis have a huge margin.

Ive used those Toyo's they are a very reasonable tyre and a close copy to the old Goodyear F1's. The tread pattern does tend to make them noisy tho from my experience.

Kumho KU31's are also a good high performance tyre and wear very well.

shaneth
26-03-2008, 04:44 PM
well the toyos are 205 fitted, now the decision is yokohama advan ad07 for 250 or toyo for 205. Both have good write ups.

Well I've found some new Continental Sport Contact 2 for $409 each which has been the best price I've found in Brisbane. I did consider the Dunlop SP Sport Maxx for $380 (Wheels Tyre of 2007) but couldn't bring myself to do it. The Conti's have been too good for me to change.

I'm just going through the same thing now :icon_sad: I need some 235/35 ZR19's and I have the Dunlop SP MAXX which I have over the moon with, but I need just a little more grip.

Getting prices on Conti sport 3's and Michelin Pilot Sports......

I just put these on yesterday, Yokohama Advan Neova AD07.
Can't say too much as yet, $262.00, suppose to be extreme performance.

Thanks tweaked, I'll give them a call.

Dave, see if you can find a review somewhere on them, as I mentioned - if they are bad, you have to spend your cash twice!

My only comment on that tyre pattern is they may be noisy - logitudional grooves makes tyres quiet on the road - they have none!

I've read about 4 reviews on them ... apparently these won two Euro 'Tyre of the Year' awards and also ... one review said they are made by Pirelli ... not sure about that. I'll keep checking.

Review of Aus. success of Marangoni:
http://www.marangonityre.co.uk/News_Item.asp?ID=36

Marangoni's partnership is with Bridgestone, not Pirelli ... see article below:

Marangoni Racing Tyre development:

And from the Rimini 'My Special Car Exhibition Show' site; the following extract:

MARANGONI TYRE
Marangoni Tyre is the company in the Trento group of the same name, that makes tyres for cars, SUVs and light trucks. Marangoni presents its high-performance Zeta Linea and Mythos tyres, aggressive and high-performing, ideal for tuning. Marangoni is also exhibiting the Osella PA 21 with Honda engine and Marangoni Zeta Linea Racing tyres, with which Simone Faggioli won the 2005 European Mountain Championship.

The tread pattern in the pic on page 3 is the Zeta Linea tyre.

Just organised the new pirelli P-Zero's @ $595 per tyre.

The Michelin were $695, the CCS3 were $649 each. Spoke to the Pirelli rep & ran few a few things & it looks like they will suit our purpose well :nodder:

Hi all

My first post here.

The prices of Conti ContactSport 2's makes depressing reading.

Last time I looked tirerack in USA (www.tirerack.com (http://www.tirerack.com)) was selling the std GTI spec 17" CCS2 for $163ea. :icon_eek: Plus, I'm told, ~$200 to import them to Aus.

I make no comment on legality/spec/performance/age of tyres etc., but given the $AU's almost-parity with the $US, it does seem tempting....
