Well after the sale of the S3 a couple of days ago, I placed my order yesterday...

I have ordered a White GT Diesel DSG with the works:

leather
xenons
sunroof
RNS 510 Satnav
Alarm
Reverse sensors....

The wait I'm told will be in the order of 3-4 months...

Should be fun when it arrives and after Oettinger have given it a brain massage :icon_cool:

Hi Oil- Yeppers no change to satnav price....

Compared to what Audi want for one, the price is pretty reasonable I reckon....

Hi Chris,
Welcome to the boards. Congrats (or condolences, I'm not sure) on the S3 sale. I hope you sold it to someone who will appreciate it as much as you did. Everytime I saw it mentioned I thought about what might have been (not that I regret the R32 though).
GT time hey. Congrats on that too (RNS510 too, I'm so jealous). Can't believe the waits they still have on these models. VW are definitely the flavour at the moment.
Happy Dubbin'

I ordered mine two weeks ago, identical except the sunroof.

According to the first ETA that I've been given I have around 94 sleeps to go, I'm waiting on an updated one that will give me a more accurate idea (and hopefully shorter!!) of how long I have to wait.

Can't wait, I'm getting fidgety already and it's only been 2 weeks.

Thanks for the warm welcome Guy and Trent!

The S3 is heading north to a guy in Sydney who appreciated it for what it is, purchased sight unseen and will not believe how good it is when he collects it late next week.

I am really sad to see it go- it's the best car I have ever owned for smile factor, but I just didn't drive it enough and it needs to be with someone who will love it and look after it.

I'm hoping it will be much loved and the that the guy who purchased it will show his head on OzAudi....

Meanwhile, looks like I'll be riding the pushbike a fair bit over the next few months :icon_rolleyes:

You know that the GT TDI is already 350Nm and this is the maximum rated torque of the DSG box so i dont know about your Oettinger.

Thanks for the warm welcome Ben,

There will definitely be pics when the car finally arrives. I haven't seen a white one yet, but it seems like some colour coding of the rear bumper may be called for. We'll see what it looks like when it arrives.

Logzy, Re chips and DSG, Guy informs me that they have done a heap of DSG GTI's making at least 400nm without issue and there is always the drivetain warranty there as a safety net anyway, so I'll most likely proceed....

Let's hope so. A busted DSG will be very nasty given how much a replacement system costs...

I don't imagine DSG would be cheap at all to repair, and would be a shame if you cook a new gearbox 2muchcoffeeman.. especially if the warranty is voided.

I think people who are planning a lot of mods go for manual.. but i wouldn't mind knowing the actual maximum torque rating for DSG, as an APR chip seemed harmless enough.

Ps Logzy is this the exact same box for GTI DSG? (i've ordered one and also waiting... would consider chipping it in the future when it gets boring.. Would it put more stress on the car and decrease it's longevity? Heat is usually the problem..)

Just got back from 3 weeks tuning in Germany & UK - we installed a stage 3 kit on GTI DSG with 385hp & 440nm of torque.

The car was then calibrated over a couple of days on the road & on the Dynojet dyno (with load holding at constant RPM).

To be honest, in Auto mode it was hopeless, the transmission would hop & drop gears.

In Manual mode it worked well.

We couldnt get the exact same top end power figure out of the DSG as it would still shift up at 6500rpm (the manual at 7500rpm) so its certainly not for everyone!

Anyway, we could see in the torque manager maps the load protection sections were fairly low - 450nm is not a real problem.

Yeah welcome back Guy! There's no point me hanging around the Audi forum anymore.. For those others that don't know me I previously had a B5 1.8T but got a GTI on the way.

Anyway from what you are saying is the power put through the DSG with a chip still well under the maximum for a GTI (or does it only apply for GT )? If i'm not planning on any other mods, i still wouldnt mind a chip if it's not going to bust anything :).

Greg,

A chip is super safe - no particular load on the DSG, some of the cars we did back in August 05' are now approaching 100,000km's so they are holding up really well.

I went with the manual and Superchip, its silky smooth and plenty of torque. Have a look here http://www.superchips.co.uk/curves/vag20tdi170.pdf

This is only one of the maps Superchips have, they can taylor make a map to suit what ever you want to do with it. Max torque, max power, max economy really what ever you want.

Good luck with it.

On a slight tangent,

I know that some have colour coded the base of the rear GTI bumper and left only the lower grey section. Has anybody colour coded an entire Golf GT bumper?

I'm not crazy about the expanse of black at the bottom of the GT rear 'bar and without ditching the whole lot for a GTI unit and then painting it, I was contemplating just getting the lot done...

Your thoughts guys?

I've seen GTIs with the whole bumper painted. While I prefer leaving the black inset on the GTI bumper black, the full paint job still looks good and I imagine it would look good on the GT too.
Personally I'd go for the full GTI job though.
Does the GT have the split front lip like the GTI as well? Doing a two tone paint job on the GTI also looks pretty damn good.

Yeah, i can't understand it either. Either staff are making errors judging the time it takes, or shipments get cancelled etc. Apparently Highway is usually close to the mark, so i'll let you all know in 3 weeks.

ps. last year when i was looking at GTI's i did call the sunny coast dealership and they couldn't match the same deal (or get near it) on what Highway could. They had it in stock, but then again had a heap of GTI's down the back now it seems like there are none in the country and everyone has to wait 3 months.

I'm really looking forward to the car arriving. Driving my wife up the wall at the moment. After waiting over 4 months now and facing a wait of at least 3 months more I needed to do something and I remembered you mentioning your GTI was coming in to Highway and was available.

Highway Auto have been excellent to deal with so far, to say 10000 times better then Austral VW would be an understatement.

More then a few problems (see below for the full long drawn out story)

Hi Maverick,

Just had a read on the golfmkv forums and seems like you've been through a lot getting a newie (probably an understatement)!

It's hard to understand the wait on all Golfs to be honest, and seems like its order-in only. At the time when i ordered the white one there were none at all in the country, and a 3 month wait. As you've pointed out there seems to be some errors in estimating time of delivery or in the ordering process. Highway are very good and assured me they get it right in terms of expected delivery. Another guy i know got his from there and came in to the day almost.

I think you'll be happy with it as white with DSG+Black leather looks the goods, and IMO worth the extra over GT's. I don't think most of the other options are worth it or necessary as the end price ends up being too much, and just more money to lose later. It was a hard decision as i was happy with the combo, but ended up changing my finance strategy so spent a bit more and went for the R32 (but decided on manual to keep the price down). What's more is i'm not planning to do any mods, so will be leaving it stock.

As you say you can have a good search on the forums and add xenons later. I have GPS on my pda phone with a car mount, and can't justify extra thousands on Sat Nav. Edit: Not sure what the new unit is but wasn't guy selling some new touch screen one? Can't find the link, but perhaps you could add that later.

Anyway glad it's working out now. I'm picking mine up on Monday. Highway did a fantastic job on securing one of the unclaimed ones that had just come into port, which was only 3 weeks ago.

Cheers,

Hopefully I'll get a call from Highway on Thursday to confirm the delivery day, then I'll organise the torque arm insert and RNS510 install (probably same day if doable and then the vinyl paint protection).

What's this torque arm insert? Is it an extra dampener or something?

Did you look into an ipod cable? i wouldnt mind one if the stero fully controls it, but not if the cds dont work (which i recall something like that - one or the other). not sure on cost either but may not be worth it.

It speeds up the DSG change through reduced engine movement.

I'm getting the APR 80 or 90 duro (not sure yet).

You may want to check to see if the R32 takes the same one.

Guy from HP sells and fits them, around $100.

I'm not going to get the IPOD cable for the RNS510, I'm going to install the multimedia interface which gives you the option of a usb cable for memory sticks, ipod interface or 3.5mm jack. Properly interfaces to the RNS510, not readily available yet.

The 80 duro is for the manual and the 90 for the dsg. The 4cyl's have three mounts I believe, two on the top and one on the bottom. Changing the bottom one gives you the most improvement and takes 15 minutes. The top ones are a lot harder and give less improvement.

The links I posted have a heap of info on them.

ps The centre console has a small rattle too, but assume they are all like it or i'm being extra fussy. The car is looking perfect after my washing and detailing/waxing it on the weekend. Got the protective film on today.

Yes, it's pretty easy to install but you need a torque wrench and something to pick the car up.

Perhaps Guy could add something here, but aren't these torque arms mainly for GTI and DSG models? I don't know enough about it but R32 may not need it.

That's the product that I'm getting as well, I'm not doing the whole bonnet only the bottom part and the whole front, mirrors, top of rear bumper etc. Around $699 installed.

Is yours the 3M film or the one i mentioned? I decided to do whole bonet as there's a fair chance of a stone hitting further up, and i didn't want to see the line. As long as the guy fitting yours does a good job should be ok.

The mounts fit all the MK5's - we have a recommendation on which strength to use depending on your engine / transmission.

On any R32 we use the heavier 90 duro version!

Anyway shouldn't be too long.

21 hours actually from now....

One more sleep............

Received a message this morning whilst in a meeting and was thinking damn something must have happened to my car as surely it wouldn't be ready so soon but the tint goes on in the morning and I collect at 4:30...

I'll remind Derek when I get there :)

Felling like absolutely crud at the moment, the cold that everyone at work seems to have has passed onto me. Still the sight of the GTI will fix that

Let me know how you get on. I think i'll get one of those parcel nets for the floor eventually too - the one under the parcel shelf doesn't really do much but ok i guess.

Was back there today getting the rattle fixed - all good now.

I've picked the car up, excellent experience dealing with Highway, it was a efficient handover process and I was on my way about an hour after getting there.

Of course the first thing I do when going to indicate to leave the dealer is turn the wipers on and it took me about 5 wipes to get them off!

Car is fantastic so far, had 10km on it when I collected and now has about 90.

I reminded him about the voucher! Did you buy the net as I thought Derek said you were getting one?

Congrats Mav,

Great that everything has finally worked itself out and you are mobile again.

Interestingly, Burwin have come back to me yesterday and offered to allow me to put my non-refundable 3k "bribe" paid to get out of the contract for the car that they couldn't supply towards another car....(oO If only I could use it to buy a car for someone else :icon_evil:).....

Enjoy the new wheels and as per usual we want pix!

Haha.. indicators are on the LHS! i'm used to it from my old Audi.

Mine had about 11km on it. Good to see you finally got something and can sleep at nights again :buck_teeth:.

Thanks for mentioning the voucher. I sent him the referral card so should be ok. I think i'll get one of those floor nets eventually - i used to use some bunjee cables to keep parcels (and cartons of beer) secure so i could still give it some around the corners ;)).

Keen to see some pics too (or it didn't happen LOL). I'll put some up of mine in my R32 thread.
