http://www.ozaudi.com/HP_RNS510/3.JPGHey Gent's - we are pretty excited about this, we install new nav systems (OEM) for dealerships & ever since the RNS 510 was announced last year, we were itching to get our hands on one.

Problem is its not released by VW until a few months time (first in touareg, then in Golf about April) - it has a huge range of features, from 30gb HDD, sd memomry slot, on board DVD player, touch screen etc, etc - its just awesome.

We also coupled this with the premium bluetooth which may or may not be available in the Australian cars - its expensive, but its integration is better than any we have seen from Audi, BMW or Benz.

There are 30 photo's in the directory, heres a few - we are so impressed (needless to say its an Australian first for the full set up!)

Very impressive. And it is the first all in one unit I've seen that looks fairly simplistic in operation.

Thumbs up!

That's sweet as. Is there any possible chance at all that you could fit it to an MkIV? My guess is that the answer will be no. :(
Very very very nice.

Looks awesome! Did the car come with a half screen and was retrofitted with a full screen or did it come with a full screen MFD in the first place, Guy?
:)

That's a seriously nice bit of kit, Guy. How much?

Hi guys - to answer a few questions for you

The unit requires a canbus 2.0 car, which is all the new mkV based vehicles. Unfortunately it will not work in the mkIV.

The system installed works perfectly with the premium bluetooth module. The nav is much more user-friendly than previous units. Our car was retrofitted with the highline cluster, but all '08 GTIs will have these standard.

Unlike previous units, it copies the map data from the disk so you do not need to have the map disk in to run the nav; which means you can put in 'Ronin' and enjoy one of the best car chase scenes! just don't let guy know...

hey Boy's, I'm pretty excited about it (I like gadjets!) - cost is about 3k + map, the premium phone kit is ~ $1500 - 2k installed.

But its better than most OE fitted stuff on the market at present (which Audi, BMW, Mercedes etc charge 5k - 9k as an option for!)

Thanks to Lams who spent countless hours on the R&D to make it work with me - excellent job!

Just another quick update:

just checked the Ipod integration (I have the VW ipod link from last year) - you do not get full text / song info transmitted from the Ipod, it simply emulates the CD stacker - BUT it will show a huge number of tracks (ie track 109) and you can switch track & playlists (like swithcing a CD)

I suppose because this takes the CD stacker plug on the rear. i don't know if they will release some thing else for the AUX input!

Welcome aboard JC. Couldn't resist the lure of the VW hey? :nodder:
I believe Guy had the pictures up before BIMS. From memory (and the photos i took) the R50 has a different looking dash. I think Guy and Lams did the install and setup on a Golf themselves?
Cheers.

Hi Guy,

I've got an 07 R32 non-nav (So not Highline MFD) - would it be possible to fit it this setup to mine (Or alternatively just the highline MFD?).

Can you PM me with pricing?

Are there any updates to the situation with the RNS510 in Oz? All of my contacts with the dealer network are leading nowhere. Does anyone have a supply yet, or should I just give up and resign myself to never having one of these things (before the lease runs out and the car goes).

My car is an MY 08 R32, so it has the high line MFD. Surely it can't be that hard to install.

Hmmmm.........will it fit a Skoda Octavia with no steering wheel controls ?

Cheers

jb, we have sold a dozen so far - they are all working fine. These are legit units with full warranty (not ebay specials) - cant speak for the dealers though sorry.

Dave, we are going to retrofit the steering wheel controls as well. Shouldn't be too hard or too expensive.

As soon as we get a car of course!

Looks awesome, May be a nice add on for the future.. just a few questions:

-Does this have a digital TV receiver (DVB i think it is)? Would be good for the future even though AUS isn't broadcasting yet (we are a bit behind korea and japan's technology).

-Can the maps be copied onto HDD? SO can listen to cd at the same time?

-Does it have a lineout to connect to an Amplifier like other head units, and is the sound as good as most headunits?

don't know if they will release some thing else for the AUX input!

So is there a 3.5mm input jack on the front? i would kinda prefer it to ipod link, as i'm getting a high quality line out direct cable for my ipod (better sound).

Thanks,

I may just stick with TomTom on the PDA phone for now and save myself 3k. Nice unit though, but not sure if it would sound any better than the stock one, and doubt its as good as Audi's BOSE etc.

Thanks,

Greg, its now the standard VW unit - no external 3.5mm inputs pr any of that stuff - it has all the usual VW amplifier outs, (for the VW amplifier - and VW premium sound package / bose etc) - it programmed to suit your cars equipment!

Oh, thanks Guy.. i kind of thought it was now the standard upgrade (ie Sat nav) package but am a bit slow ..:).

So does the one you sell come with reversing camera package too?

Cheers

Hey greg,

No, thats another control unit - Its possible - but expensive (as its full factory) :)

Hey guy,

I see.. it's not like you really need parking sensors unless you can't look over your shoulder, so no great loss.

Just to clarify then, does the RNS510 pop straight in to the 2008 golfs or does it need special installation? Sounds like a 10 stack cd is extra which sits in the glove box, and no longer a 6 cd in dash.

Hi guy,

Just wondering if you sell or install the bluetooth kits for Golf V (not sure if the 'Premium' kit is the same as the bluetooth factory options)? Also what is the rough price and what features? The main thing i want to know is if its easy to retrofit it as i didn't order it from the factory.. perhaps VW can install it/order it? Would just be handy to have the phone integration, but speaker phone works ok for now but would be nice having full control from the steering wheel/dash .

Cheers,
Greg

I heard this unit may be capable of reading Dual Layer DVD's??

Also is it true gapless playback for mp3's? This is usually dependent on the player to have a gapless algorithm as mp3 have some silence stored in the metafile data (i think) :).

Pretty sweet unit, just wanted to check if everyone likes it more compared to the 2din alpines etc....

Greg, I'm not sure on that - if you have one, you are welcome to pop down & we can try it in our demo unit.

Sorry, I missed your other posts in this thread!
