looking to upgrade to bigger wheels, i really like the r32 mk4 wheels but i dont want to look like i'm trying to make an r32, i think they just look awesome.
i'm also looking at rs4 and s4 wheels too,
though my question is, what kinda of strain would there be on the drive train, power steering and other running gear from getting 17's or 18, is there much difference?

Depends on the weight of the rim, there are a lot of replica's on the market & generally speaking they won't be twice stock weight - so its not a big issue. Obviously a 19" wheel carries most of its weight close to the extremities, so its a worse place for the extra weight - but on a street car its no biggie!
Just watch the quality - we have seen RS4 replica rims made in Italy & made in Tiawan - they both look pretty good & cost a similar amount of money.
big difference is one takes 500 grams of weights to balance it without a tyre - the other takes about 150 grams to balance it.
A genuine wheel is already balanced.
hence the cost!
good luck in the search
